I don’t know a single person who has absolutely no stress. Stress from work, keeping up with the household, chasing toddlers, rushing to get everyone out the door on time, trying to meet other people’s expectations, spilling your coffee, etc. Life is exhausting some days (or weeks it’s been one of those “is it over?” weeks). Even our little ones get stressed out sometimes. They get anxious of making us parents happy, trying to learn new things, and making tough decisions- like what kind of jelly do they want on their pb&j sandwich. All the little stresses can really add up to big problems. Stress and anxiety can adversely affect the entire body. Here’s some of the many ways anxiety can be harmful:

Stress and Your Respiratory System

When you’re stressed or anxious, you breathe faster. Your body produces adrenaline which pushes more oxygen to the muscles.

Your Heart on Stress

In order to get that extra oxygen to your muscles, your heart has to pump faster. This raises your blood pressure and risk of heart attack.

The Pain of Anxiety

Stress and anxiety can cause our muscles to tense up, and they stay tensed up until we relax ourselves. Too much tension brings headaches and body cramps.

Stress- the straw that broke the camel’s back

Our minds are like pressure vessels, the more we bottle up our stresses the more prone we are to erupting. Little stresses can turn into big messes. What may seem small and insignificant can play a huge part on your temperament and emotional well being. You’ll lose control of your emotions.

Mental Disabilities

Kids stress too. it may seem strange to think that such carefree little creatures have anxieties of their own, but they do. John Hopkins University discovered a connection between kids with high levels of chronic stress and the development of mental illnesses, if they have possible mental diseases in their genes.

Stress can ruin your pearly whites

Many people grind their teeth when they become tense or stressed. Bet you can guess why teeth grinding is a bad idea. However, high levels of stress are now linked to gum diseases. Just in case you didn’t know this, you need healthy gums and teeth because good health starts in the mouth. Your mouth is often the first line of defense to fight off illnesses.
How to relieve your anxiety
