A Fresh Home
My Air Freshener Journey
Okay before I tell my story, I’d like to make it clear that I am human- I make mistakes. I haven’t always been so environmentally conscious or natural remedy savvy. I used to eat honey buns and oatmeal creme pies- I cleaned with bleach sprays and noxious chemicals. I was an average american consuming without thinking, but not any more.
A big step for me was home fragrances. When Maverick and I first were married, we lived in a cozy one bedroom apartment. It was close to everything- the grocery store, the mall, and our favorite restaurants. As great as it was, there was problem, the neighbors. I’m not going to get personal, but I will say they smoked. So much so, that it began to seep through our walls. The smell was awful.

We began buying air fresheners. I started with a bottle of fabreeze hoping that would mask the smell but to no avail. Next, we bought these little solid odor absorbers/ fresheners. (I don’t know the specific name, but if you do please tell me.) They worked well. It got us through that time till we bought our house.
Fast forward two years and you won’t find those crazy-I-don’t-know-what-to-call-them things in our house. I don’t fuss over every little smell as much as I use to. I do, however, use oil diffusers to create good moods and pleasant scents. I love being able to drop a few drops of lavender essential oil in the diffuser with some melaleuca oil and let the kids sleep like rocks. Usually this happens on Wednesday afternoon when I’m trying to get housework done ;)
You’re probably wondering why I’m telling you this. The point is this. We don’t need a noxious concoction of chemicals to make our homes smell delicious and fresh. There are safer, healthier ways to freshen up the air.

We enjoy our essential oils, but the next thing on my list is healthy candles.
